PapaMap is a map of baby changing tables, built from public data and from what people who have been there tell us. These are the rules for using it. They are short on purpose.
The map may be wrong
Check before you rely on it. Places close, facilities get removed, and details go out of date. PapaMap is provided as-is, with no guarantee that any location exists, is open, or is usable when you get there.
Places are added by parents from their own first-hand visits, and confirmed by other parents who go there. Nothing on the map is imported from another database. That is a better starting point than an automated list, and it is still not a guarantee: a changing table can be removed, broken, or behind a door that is locked on the day you arrive. If you find something wrong, please report it in the app — that is how the map gets better.
Contributing, with or without an email
You can tell us which restroom a changing table is in without giving us anything: the app makes a random identifier on your phone the first time you do. Adding a place, editing one, or reporting a problem needs an email address, which we use only to sign you in.
Either way, you are responsible for what is submitted under your identifier, and either way you can delete it — and everything recorded against it — from inside the app, immediately and permanently.
What you contribute
When you add or edit a location, you are telling other parents a fact about a public place: that a changing table is there, and where to find it. By submitting it you confirm you have seen it yourself or have good reason to believe it is accurate.
You grant us a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free license to store, display and distribute the location information you submit as part of the map, including after you delete your account. This license exists for one reason: so that a place other people depend on does not disappear from the map when one contributor leaves.
It covers factual location data only — a name, a description of where the facility is, a type, coordinates, and which restroom the changing table is in. It does not cover anything personal. Reports you file and the restroom confirmations you submit are yours, are treated as personal content, and are deleted along with your account. See the privacy policy for exactly what is kept and removed.
The distinction between the last two is deliberate. Stating on a location that the changing table is in the men’s room is a fact about that place, and it stays with the place. Tapping to confirm what someone else said is a record of what you did, and it goes when you do.
Photos
If you add a photo, it must be a photo of the outside of a place — an entrance, a door, a sign — that you took yourself, with the camera in the app, at that place.
Frame the door, not the people.
Do not photograph:
- the inside of a restroom, a changing room, or any private space;
- a changing table in use;
- a child — not someone else’s, and not your own. A photo of a kid outside a public restroom is a thing that gets used badly, and once it’s on the map it’s public to everyone.
Someone walking past in the background is fine. A photo whose subject is a person is not, and we’ll remove it.
You keep the copyright in your photo — it’s yours, use it anywhere you like. You’re giving us permission, for free, to do two things with it.
In the app: store it and show it in PapaMap, next to the place it belongs to.
To show people what PapaMap is: now and then we pick a photo by hand — a handful, ever — and use it on papamap.com, in App Store screenshots, and in posts about the app. The App Store, Google Play, and any site we post on will be showing your photo as part of that. We will not sell your photo, and we will not let anyone use it to advertise something that isn’t PapaMap.
You can take this back. Delete the photo, or delete your account, and we stop using it. It comes off the map. It comes off papamap.com and our own posts, and out of our App Store screenshots at our next update, within 30 days.
One thing we can’t promise, so we won’t: we can’t reach a copy that is already out. A screenshot already in the App Store is there until we ship the next update. A post someone else has already saved or shared is out of our hands. Everything we still control, we stop using.
Adding a photo means you’re confirming three things: you took it, it’s the outside of a public place, and it isn’t a photo of a child.
We may remove any photo, for any reason, without notice. We are more likely to do so than to argue about it.
If you think something here infringes your copyright
Email hello@papamap.com with enough to find the work and where it appears in PapaMap, and we’ll take it down promptly. We have a designated agent registered with the U.S. Copyright Office, listed in their public directory. If an account keeps posting other people’s work, we stop accepting contributions from it.
What not to submit
- Places that do not exist, or facilities you have not confirmed.
- Anyone's home, or any private space not open to the public.
- Personal information about anyone, yourself included.
- Advertising, or anything abusive, offensive, or unlawful.
We may remove any submission and may suspend accounts that repeatedly submit bad data.
Map and location data
The places on the map are contributed by people using the app. If we ever include data from another source, this page will name it and credit it. The base map is drawn by Mapbox and is subject to their terms.
Liability
To the extent the law allows, PapaMap is not liable for any loss arising from using it or from relying on information in it. It is a free service offered in good faith to help parents find somewhere to change a diaper.
Changes
These terms may change. The date above will change with them, and continuing to use PapaMap means accepting the current version.
